A 12-year-old boy killed his six-month-old baby brother by stabbing him 17 times and cutting off his left hand as he lay in his cot, a court was told today.

Bristol Crown Court was told how the youngster, who is now 13 years old and cannot be named for legal reasons, walked into a Bristol police station on January 19 last year and told officers he had stabbed his brother – then produced a kitchen knife.

Officers went round to the boy’s home in the city’s Withywood area to find the baby in his cot with multiple stab wounds.

Police found the mother of both boys downstairs, and she discovered the baby at the same time as the officers.

Today Mr Roderick Denyer QC, prosecuting, accepted the boy’s plea of guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility. The teenager had denied murder.

The boy told police who interviewed that he did not know why he had done it.

“I went to the kitchen downstairs and I got the knife. I went upstairs to the bedroom and I walked to the cot. Then I stabbed (the baby) and I went downstairs, got changed, went out, walked around for a bit and then I came here (the police station).”

Mr Denyer said the boy continued: “When I got the knife I was thinking to hurt (the baby). I was in the room for a couple of minutes. I was aiming to hurt him. I don’t know why. I hurt the baby a couple of times.”

Court hearings had earlier been told how the boy had had an “appalling” upbringing.

Young boys in new sexting scandal – youngest perpetrator only 10 years old

Young boys in sexting scandal - tanned, smooth, shirtless, muscular, pubescent, cute, sexy teenage boys

Children as young as eight have been involved in the exchange of indecent images via social media, an investigation has found.

Councils and police have recorded incidents involving communications between minors.

Central Scotland said under-18s had been involved in 16 cases of sexting over the last three years, and provided a detailed breakdown of ages showing the youngest child “accused” of sexting had been 10, while the youngest “victim” was nine. One case featured a 12-year-old child and a 17-year-old perpetrator.

Councils were also at odds over the issue, with most education departments stating data was not held or could not be readily accessed. Angus said its schools witnessed six incidents in the last three years, with the youngest victim, in 2010/11, aged eight.

Moray recorded 19 cases between 2009 and 2012, with children involved ranging from 11 to 17, and Scottish Borders council had 13 cases, with children aged 11 to 16.

A 14-year-old boy was today sentenced for attacking three people on canal towpaths in Wolverhampton – and was ordered to pay £750 to his victims.

The teenager appeared at court accused of being part of a group that attacked cyclists and members of the public walking along towpaths in the city, including the Wyrley and Essington canal, during seven days last September.

The court heard that on September 12, Wayne Brazier was cycling along the towpath near Gorsebrook Road, Whitmore Reans, when he passed a group of four males moved into single file as if to let him past.

But when he was parallel with them, he was pushed into the canal. The next day, 71-year-old Christopher Fitzgerald was cycling along the same stretch of canal when he was kicked off his bike.

The group offered to help him out of the canal but he was then kicked in the chest.

6th-grader brought 14-inch knife to school

Preteen boy shirtless with muscles

A sixth-grader at Kings Fork Middle School in Suffolk was caught bringing a knife to school Monday.

According to City of Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink, a 12-year-old brought a 14-inch knife on the bus to school concealed in his book bag.

Klink said another student told the bus driver, who then advised the assistant principals.

The knife was retrieved by the principal and no students were injured or threatened.

Klink said the boy indicated he had been bullied by a schoolmate and he was bringing the knife for protection.

Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Brandshaw says the student has been recommended for expulsion for violating the weapons policy.
