A 16-year-old Christian boy has been held on blasphemy charges in the Pakistani city of Karachi.
The boy is said to have forwarded a text message which allegedly contained offensive material on Tuesday.
The following day an angry crowd ransacked his family home, setting fire to their belongings on the street.
Clerics living in the vicinity are pressuring police to capture the boy or face a series of protests outside the station.
Fearing for their lives, the boy’s mother Rubina fled from her house along with her son and her physically challenged husband.
Christian activist Zahid Farooq said that the boy and his family were safe, but were also terrified to come back to their house and face the charges.
“Even if they come back, who would stop violent protesters from killing them,” asked Farooq.
