A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for attempting to murder his grandmother with a hatchet at their home in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Police are investigating the motives behind the third year high school boy’s attack on his 72-year-old grandmother who sustained injuries to the back of her head which are expected to take a month to heal, Fuji News Network reported.

A teenager who allegedly killed his mother and chopped her body into pieces has told police he simply did not like her, and wanted to know more about dissection.
The 19-year-old allegedly dismembered his mother’s body in the bathroom, cutting her into at least 15 pieces using kitchen knives, the Sankei daily said Saturday, citing unnamed police sources.
The teenager, who lived with his mother in a small apartment in Kawasaki, then kept the body parts in the bathtub, which he filled with water, before starting to dump it piece by piece in plastic bags, the report said.
He told police he “didn’t like her” and she was an “ordinary person”, the Sankei reported, quoting an unnamed investigator.
He also said he was interested in the dissection of a human body, the Yomiuri and Mainichi newspapers reported.
The suspect, who has not been named as he is still a minor under Japanese law, was arrested on March 14 after a relative visited the apartment and found some of the body parts. The murder is believed to have been committed about two weeks previously.

A 17-year-old male high school student was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of possessing weapons including a converted handgun capable of killing a person, police said Tuesday.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, a revolver converted to fire ammunition, four air guns and two toy guns resembling real ones were found in the boy’s home in Yokohama on March 20. The student was arrested.
Possession of weapons that fire ammunition is a violation of the Firearms and Swords Control Law.
According to the MPD, the student collected model guns and played survival games as a hobby. He allegedly made fake guns and has put them on sale on Internet auction sites for between 10,000 yen and 25,000 yen since 2008.
He also illegally converted a toy gun into a real weapon by drilling holes into the cylinder and making other changes, and test-fired the handgun at empty cans, the police said.
The student attends a high school with a high rate of success in university entrance examinations, and is believed to have learned how to convert fake guns through the Internet and by other means.
The student was quoted by police as saying: “I watched 007 [James Bond] movies and became interested in guns. I thought there would be no problem if I didn’t use them on other people.”

A Romanian boy was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder-robbery after he was apprehended Thursday near the site where a 22-year-old woman was killed in the Kichijoji district of Musashino, Tokyo.
The 17-year-old boy reportedly admitted stabbing and robbing a restaurant employee who lived near the crime scene.
He explained that “stabbing her was simpler than threatening her” and that he needed her money “as I spent all mine at the arcade.”
He approached the 22-year-old woman who lived near him and was returning from a local convenience store one night, followed her and then stabbed her in the back, inflicting a 17 cm deep wound which proved fatal.
After the crime he “spent some time at a manga cafe waiting for there to be less people about.”

A 17-year-old boy turned himself in to Hiroshima police on Wednesday morning, saying that he murdered his grandparents.
The youth, currently in the second grade of high school, presented himself to a police station in the city’s Asakita Ward just after midnight, TBS reported. Police said that he confessed to the murder of his 74-year-old grandfather and 73-year-old grandmother, with whom he lived.
Police went to the residence and found the couple dead of stab wounds from what appeared to be a kitchen knife. According to police, the alleged murder took place at around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Police quoted the youth as saying he got mad at his grandparents because they kept scolding him for not going to school.

Police said Tuesday they have arrested three youths for robbing two pizza delivery boys in Tama and Hachioji in September.
According to police, the three suspects—aged between 16 and 19—followed the two pizza delivery boys on their rounds. After making a number of deliveries, the 17-year-old part-time workers were forced off their bikes by the gang, TBS reported. The gang smashed lights on the motorbikes with metal bats and threatened the pizza delivery boys with a knife, police said.
Police said that one of the gang used to work part time at the pizza company. He was quoted as saying he and his friends needed money for fun.

An 18-year-old youth has been arrested in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, after his girlfriend, with whom he had been living, was found dead.
According to police, Manami Shiraishi, 18, was found dead at her apartment at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Fuji TV reported. Police said the youth was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police said the suspect showed up at the police station at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and said he had strangled the woman he lived with. He was quoted by police as saying that the woman told him she wanted to die and that she had talked about committing suicide.

Police said Sunday they have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly stabbing his father in the back at their home in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture.
According to police, the boy attacked his 49-year-old father with a 12-cm knife at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday. The father called 119. He was taken to hospital, with three knife wounds to his back, but his condition is not life-threatening, police said.
The boy was taken into custody and was quoted by police as saying that he got angry when his father refused to give him money to go out and have some fun, but he denied any intent to kill, TBS reported.

A 17-year-old Japanese boy has gone on trial in Indonesia after being accused of possessing marijuana on the resort island of Bali.
Prosecutor Wayan Widana told reporters the student from Nara, Japan, could face 12 years in detention if found guilty.
The boy has been held in a police cell since Aug. 8, when he allegedly bought a small amount of marijuana near popular Kuta beach.
