A 17-year-old suburban Dallas boy has been charged with human trafficking after a 15-year-old female schoolmate accused him of holding her captive and compelling her into prostitution.

An Irving police statement says the boy brought the girl to his home, where she remained under the influence of drugs and alcohol for three days. During that time, police said, the boy compelled the girl to become involved in prostitution.

Police also say the boy tried to recruit other young girls into prostitution. Investigators are seeking out those girls and interviewing them to determine if there are any other victims.

The boy remains in Irving city jail charged with human trafficking of a minor, compelling prostitution and sexual performance by a child. Bond is set at $175,000.

Seven youths have appeared in court in South Africa over a viral video which allegedly shows them gang raping a mentally-disturbed teenage girl.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 20, were remanded in custody yesterday after the shocking incident sparked outrage across the country.

The group were arrested when a sickening 10 minute and 33 second video clip of the unnamed 17-year-old being attacked went viral in schools and communities around Johannesburg.

Police believe the victim was abducted from her home in the township of Soweto on March 21 and gang raped by her attackers, who allegedly filmed the assault on a mobile phone.

The girl, who is said to have the mental capacity of a five year old, remained missing for three weeks before she was found on Wednesday.

The seven suspects were arrested earlier this week after they were allegedly identified from the video footage.

South Africa’s Sowetan newspaper reported that the group faced preliminary charges of rape, rape, sexual assault, engaging in sex with a minor for a reward, using a minor to create child pornography, committing a sexual act in the presence of an adult and the creation and distribution of child pornography.

Crowds of local people turned out to show their anger for the group of boys, who apparently made no attempt to hide their faces in the video of the attack.

A 10-year-old Washington state boy was sentenced on Wednesday to up to 5 1/2 years in a juvenile detention facility for his role in a foiled plot to rape and kill a girl at his school and harm other children.

The boy was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, juvenile firearm possession and witness tampering in connection with a plot in February at an elementary school in Colville, Washington, about 345 kilometres east of Seattle.

Prosecutors said he pleaded guilty last month to all charges.

The fifth-grade boy told investigators he and his friend had planned to kill a former girlfriend because she was “rude” and “always made fun” of him and friends, according to court documents.

They plotted to entice the fifth-grade girl away from their elementary school, the court papers stated.

The 10-year-old had taken a functional Remington Model 1911 pistol that originally belonged to his grandfather from his older brother’s room, according to court records.

The boys had also packed ammunition and a knife, but they were stopped on Feb. 7 shortly after they boarded a school bus.

A fourth-grade student spotted the knife and reported it to a teacher’s aide. The names of six other targeted classmates were on a list the boys had, Stevens County prosecutor Tim Rasmussen said.

Stevens County Superior Court Judge Allen Nielson sentenced the boy to a minimum of just over three years in juvenile detention and a maximum of nearly 51/2 years, Rasmussen said.

The 10-year-old boy will serve his sentence at the Echo Glen children’s juvenile center in Snoqualmie, Wash., 70 kilometres east of Seattle. He has already spent 97 days in a local juvenile detention facility, Rasmussen said.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department says a 14-year-old was taken to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the hand.

Deputies say the teenager was trying to clear a malfuntion of a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun when his hand moved in front of the muzzle of the weapon and the gun went off.

Deputies say the boy’s hand was “grazed” by the bullet. He was taken to a La Crosse hospital with minor injuries.

The teen had been target shooting at the time of the incident. There is no indication of foul play and the shooting appears to have been unintentional.

On Friday afternoon police arrested an 11-year-old boy (name withheld) for allegedly trying to set ablaze the Area B/C Mosque, near Customs Quarters in Nyanya, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the Imam of the mosque, Zubairu Mohammed, the boy had earlier set fire to one of the Mosque’s Qur’anic classrooms without knowing that a security man was sleeping inside and had noticed the fire.

He added that after the security man had put off the fire, he sighted the boy holding a gallon of fuel as well as a box of matches near the main mosque and apprehended him.

“The boy is with the juvenile section of the station and we are investigating the matter because it is very serious,” Sergeant O. Ibrahim said.
