A 12-year-old boy is one of two youth charged with stealing a van, tracked down with the help of a police helicopter and the police dog unit.
The incident began at about 1 a.m. on Monday, when officers in the helicopter noticed a Ford Freestar driving up and down several back lanes in the 700-block of Nassau Street South. They saw the mini-van collide with a parked car and flee the area, according to a police news release today.
Uniformed officers and the dog unit rushed to the area while the copter followed the fleeing Ford to the 300-block of Maplewood Avenue, where two occupants jumped from the mini-van and ran.
Police tracked the pair and, at a nearby home, arrested two boys, 16- and 12-years-old.
The 16-year-old faces charges including driving without a licence and vehicle theft.
The 12-year-old is charged with vehicle theft.
