A Dutch linesman has died after he was punched and kicked by youth football players while officiating their match.
Richard Nieuwenhuizen collapsed and was rushed to hospital after he was attacked by players from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten during a game yesterday.
And today the 41-year-old’s club, Buitenboys, announced he had passed away.
Three players, aged between 15 and 16, have today been arrested for alleged involvement in the incident, in the town of Almere.
Police say the suspects remain in custody, and officers have not ruled out making further arrests.
